50 per cent BPL families belong to Scheduled Castes

Of 3,159,222 rural households, 858,389 belong to BPL category

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has finalised the list of rural households living Below Poverty Line (BPL) in the State in accordance with the socio-economic indicators given by the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

An official spokesman said here on Tuesday that of a total of 3,159,222 rural households, 858,389 are considered living below the poverty line according to the latest figures. They include 430,905 households belonging to Scheduled Castes living below the poverty line which is nearly 50.20 per cent of the total BPL households.

The spokesman said these poor families would be eligible for the benefits under schemes meant for families living below poverty line.

There are a total of 44,185 rural households living below poverty line in Ambala district, 70,009 in Bhiwani, 34,807 in Faridabad, 48,720 in Fatehabad, 22,211 in Gurgaon, 58,737 in Hisar, 29,221 in Jhajjar, 61,540 in Jind, 52,732 in Kaithal, 52,355 in Karnal, 46,491 in Kurukshetra, 38,665 in Mahendragarh, 53,270 in Mewat, 13,514 in Panchkula, 33,402 in Panipat and 34,729 in Rewari, 22,426 in Rohtak, 47,640 in Sirsa, 48,405 in Sonepat and 45,330 in Yamunanagar.”
