APCO to open design centre in city shortly
HYDERABAD: The design centre of Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Ltd (APCO) will be established here shortly with Central assistance of Rs. 45 lakh.
Patterns
It will evolve different designs, patterns and despatch them to the societies working under the organisation, a senior official told The Hindu.
He said APCO received orders for supply of livery to the Government worth Rs.100 crore in 2008-09, up from last year’s Rs. 60 crore. It includes uniform cloth for schools and dressing for the Welfare departments.
The society has reached a comfortable position this year procuring whatever items being produced by member-societies.
Items procured
Among the items are lungis, saris (of Bandar and Rajahmundry varieties), bed sheets, towels, furnishings. The increased wages ranging from 20 to 30 per cent contributed to the weavers increasing the production, the official stated.
Sales target
He said the society’s sales target this year has been pegged to Rs.215 crore from Rs.156 crore in 2007.
Its procurement of stocks from the societies last year was worth Rs.118 crore.
