Begumpet-Fatehnagar link road soon

Promising development: A new flyover coming up from Dharam Karam Road side of Ameerpet will join the carriageway near HPS at Begumpet, easing traffic movement.

HYDERABAD: After opening the Punjagutta flyover, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has its eyes set on completing the new Begumpet-Fatehnagar link road to ease congestion at the Greenlands and Ameerpet junctions.

Once this link road comes into operation, the distance between Begumpet and Ameerpet / Fatehnagar can be reduced by at least 2.5 km, not to speak of the time saved for the road users.

While one lane of the 2-km long link road begins from behind Sri Hanuman temple in Begumpet, another starts at Katta Maisamma temple next to Hyderabad Public School (HPS) and connects to Balkampet and Fatehnagar flyover.

Motorists from Secunderabad proceeding towards Fatehnagar can use the lane abutting Varun Motors at the beginning of the Greenlands flyover, go underneath the flyover to reach the proposed road-under-bridge connecting the link road behind Sri Hanuman temple.

In the opposite direction, commuters going towards Secunderabad from Balkampet and the Sanatnagar side can directly use the link road connecting HPS road adjacent to the Katta Maisamma temple.

“Work is going on a brisk pace and pillars for constructing 425 meters bridge were also laid.

The road will be completed by March 2009”, said Engineer-in-Chief P. Panduranga Rao.

Construction began after Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid a foundation stone in August 2007.

There was delay in execution following difficulty in shifting residents from the nearby slums besides acquiring land belonging to the Begumpet airport.

“We have resolved the issue and completed 50 per cent of work”, another official said, adding that it mean twin benefits to road users, in terms of fuel consumption and less distance.

Plans have also been drawn-up to extend the same link road up to Necklace Road connecting Raj Bhavan route, he added.
