MYSORE: Pothole-ridden roads could no longer be a trouble for vehicle users if this new technology which works even during monsoon is used to repair them.

A ready mix of bitumen, bricks, concrete and stones, which comes in a 12.5-kg bag, can be used to fill potholes without the aid of machinery.

The ready mix — Pachmate — technique was demonstrated in front of Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) on Mysore-Hunsur Road on Tuesday in the presence of Mayor Ayub Khan, Mysore City Corporation Commissioner Lingappa and engineers of the civic body.

The mixture has to be poured on the damaged portion and spread evenly to restore the road surface to its original condition.

Assistant Executive Engineer Thimmappa told The Hindu that “Patchmate” could be used even during rain.

It could be used to cover water-filled potholes also, he said.

“The mixture sets within an hour of its application and there is no need to divert traffic to carry out the work. Vehicles can ply on the road soon after the application, as the mixture does not stick to tyres,” he explained.

He said the technology-provider claimed that the ready mix cuts down cost by 10 per cent to 15 per cent compared to conventional method and also gives 10 times longer service life.

The application would be intact for five years, he said.

“We will check its durability for the next two months. If the patchwork done on the pothole near VVWW is proved to be effective, then we will take a decision on using this method to fill potholes on roads across the city,” he added.
