KOCHI: The district administration is yet to receive a directive from the government regarding the site for dumping the non-biodegradable waste generated in the city. The garbage crisis has turned worse after the government decided not to dump waste at the site owned by Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) from Sunday onwards. District Collector M. Beena said here on Tuesday that the district administration was tasked with finding a solution to the garbage issue only till the commissioning of the Brahmapuram plant. She requested the Corporation authorities to intervene immediately and find a solution to the vexed issue. The Collector also pointed out that solid waste treatment is being handled by local bodies in all other districts. Ernakulam is the only place where the district administration has been handling the issue. Dr. Beena said she would visit the Brahmapuram plant on Thursday to ascertain complaints that the plant lacked facilities to treat solid waste properly. The Chief Minister had asked the Collector to visit the plant after he received a complaint from local residents.
