Temple honours sent

CUSTOMARY: Temple honours from Sri Rangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple being taken to Tirupati on Tuesday . —

TIRUCHI: In keeping with a custom established centuries ago, the authorities of Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on Tuesday despatched the temple honours to Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala.

It included the holy ‘vastrams’ for the presiding deity of Sri Venkateswara and Sri Thaayar.

The honours were sent in connection with ‘Aani vaara asthana utsavam’ there.

Amid religious fervour, the temple authorities led by temple Joint Commissioner M. Kavitha handed over the honours to a group of representatives who took them to Tirupati later.

Marking the ‘Jeshtabhishekam’ – the annual ritual of performing ‘Thaila kaappu’ was performed on the presiding deity of Lord Ranganatha at Srirangam on Tuesday. Public darshan would resume on Wednesday evening.
