PUDUCHERRY: The Revenue and Disaster Management Department, in association with United Nations Development Programme, on Wednesday organised a training programme for heads of schools in disaster management plan. Officials in the Revenue Department said the programme was organised to train heads of government and private schools. The heads of schools would be grouped together to form a core committee and evolve an action plan to improve the facilities in schools, besides taking steps for evacuation in case of natural calamity, they said. The ‘School Disaster Management Plan’ included formation of disaster management committee, hazard identification and safety assessment, preparation of school disaster management plan document, conducting awareness activities and dissemination of the plan to everyone in school, conducting regular mock drill and evaluation of the plan to improve its effectiveness. The programme was also aimed at framing a syllabus on disaster management for school students.
