On an average shops to pay Rs. 300 to Rs. 5,000 more Development and maintenance of parks to be handed over to UDA Chitradurga: The City Municipal Council (CMC) on Tuesday approved a proposal to increase the trade licence tax on all commercial establishments in the city. Revenue lossAccording to the CMC, the present tax policy was framed in 1989, which was resulting in heavy revenue loss to it. The CMC has now increased tax, between Rs. 300 and Rs. 5,000, on an average, annually based on the size of the shops and their turnover. The CMC has also widened the tax ambit by including petrol outlets, LPG dealers, garment retailers and chemists in the list. The CMC also approved a proposal to hand over the development and maintenance of parks in the city to the Urban Development Authority. ‘Difficult to maintain’During the discussion on the proposal, C.T. Krishnamurthy, member, said that the city had 11 parks, which the CMC was finding it difficult to maintain. Therefore, the development and maintenance should be handed over to the Urban Development Authority (UDA), he suggested. During the discussion on clearing the pending bills of contractors, a member sought to know why the names of only some of the contractors had been mentioned in the list. BillsThe CMC commissioner, S.P. Mudhol, clarified that he had listed the names of contactors whose bills needed to be immediately cleared.
