Samiti threatens agitation if its demand is not met

‘People should be told about the progress made’

Chitradurga: The district Neeravari Horata Samiti has demanded that the State Government set aside Rs. 2,000 crore in the Budget for the Upper Bhadra Irrigation Project.

In a release, samiti president M. Jayanna said on Tuesday that after a three-decade-long agitation, the erstwhile coalition government had approved the implementation of the project and the present Government should inform the people about the progress made.

The Government, instead of giving excuses, should release adequate funds, he said. The samiti threatened to launch an agitation against the Government if it failed to meet the demand.

Mr. Jayanna said that when B.S. Yeddyurappa was Deputy Chief Minister, the budgetary allocation for the project had been approved.
