Approval given for installation of Ambedkar statue Steps to prevent ‘neera’ sale in Dalits’ colonies CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat and in-charge Deputy Commissioner, G. Jayaram, has urged officials to utilise 18 per cent of funds reserved for the development of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Presiding over a meeting of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes welfare and development committee here on Wednesday, he said that it was not right to utilise the funds released for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for other works. He said that the Government had given administrative approval for the installation of a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in front of the district office complex here. In the wake of pressure from members of the committee to waive the loans taken from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Corporation, a proposal would be submitted to the Government, he said. He said that he would also submit a proposal to fill backlog vacancies. Steps would be taken to prevent the sale of “neera” in the colonies of Dalits and inaugurate the Ambedkar Bhavan at the district centre after consultation with the district in-charge Minister, he added.
