Congress holds ‘jail bharo’ at Sambalpur

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Hundreds of Congress activists on Wednesday courted arrest in western Orissa town of Sambalpur after staging a demonstration highlighting failures of Naveen Patnaik-led Government.

The Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Jayadev Jena, leader of opposition J. B. Patnaik, AICC Secretary K Suresh and former chief minister Hemananda Biswal were among who led the massive public rally.

The demonstration was the third “jail bhoro” agitation organised by State Congress in front of offices of Revenue Divisional Commissions (RDC) during past few months.

Earlier, similar agitations were organised at Berhampur and Cuttack.

Congress activists came from 11 districts under the northern division RDC.

After the public meeting, when the activists were proceeding towards RDC office senior Congress leaders were taken into custody. However, there was no report of any disturbance near the venue of the rally.
