TIRUNELVELI: The Tenkasi police have arrested a youth for allegedly attempting to murder a Sub-Inspector. Police sources said a police team, which was on the routine vehicle check at Kanakkupillaivalasai near Tenkasi intercepted a load-autorickshaw carrying steel, worth about Rs. 1 lakh, and three others. When the Sub-Inspector of Police Mannavan asked the autorickshaw driver Jaishankar to produce the bills for the construction material, he tried to attack him with a knife and fled the spot with the autorickshaw. However, Mr. Mannavan fired one round from his service pistol on the autorickshaw that forced Jaishankar to surrender even as others escaped. The police found that the gang, led by Jaishankar, had stolen construction materials from various places and sold them at cheaper price.
