NEW DELHI: Irked by the college administration’s decision to implement Christian quota in faculty appointments at St. Stephen’s College of Delhi University, most of the permanent teachers of the institution boycotted the special assembly and lunch for newcomers arranged by the authorities. “This was a token protest by the faculty members. We interacted with the new students, gave them their lunch coupons and time-tables, but did not attend the assembly, lunch and registration. All the heads of the departments at the College had decided to keep away from the function. When other teachers got to know of it, they decided to do the same. We sat in the staff room. However, there were some ad hoc teachers who attended the ceremony,” said one of the teachers. Most of the college teachers are up in arms against the way “non-academic factors are being used to thrust faculty appointments on the History Department”. “The college administration can’t disregard the academic evaluation of the Head of the History Department,” said another teacher, referring to a strongly-worded letter written to the pro-tem administrator, M.S. Frank, by the Head of the History Department.
