THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac and Public Works Minister Mons Joseph informed the Assembly on Wednesday that the government is working on a package to ensure speedy completion of scores of road and bridge projects across the State held up due to technical or financial snags. Dr. Isaac, who intervened in the reply by Mr. Joseph on a submission on the subject by Aryadan Mohammed (Congress), said the meetings with MLAs on the subject had revealed that everyone had the same grievance related either to hitches in land acquisition or paucity of funds. Mr. Mohammed’s plea was for completion of the Rs.4.50-crore bridge at Panankayam across the Chaliyar. Seventy per cent of the work was complete but a few spans and the approach road to the bridge were remaining incomplete on account of delay in land acquisition and shortage of some Rs.25 lakh. Food and Animal Husbandry Minister C. Divakaran told N. Anirudhan (CPI) that the government had constituted a committee to identify the source of funding for the proposed veterinary science university following receipt of the in-principle approval for the project from the State Planning Board. Mr. Baby told T.N. Prathapan (Congress) that the government would constitute a committee comprising the local MLA and the District Collector to construct a fitting memorial for poet Kunjunni Master once the 5 cents offered by the poet’s family became available.
