Farmer ends life

DAVANGERE: A farmer, who had lost the standing crops in his fields owing to failure of rains, committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Mandrahalli village under Bilchod police station limits in Jagalur taluk on Tuesday. According to the police, Basavaraj (35) had grown cucumber and hybrid maize in four acres of land. He had taken loans from his relatives and friends to purchase seeds, fertilizer and to raise the crops in his fields. When the crops withered, he ended life. — Staff Correspondent
