NEW DELHI: The Customs at Delhi airport have booked the chairman of Jay Bharat Maruti Limited for allegedly evading Customs duty on some expensive articles worth about Rs.20 lakh that he had allegedly bought during a foreign visit. S.K. Arya along with his wife and daughter arrived in Delhi from Britain by a British Airways flight on Tuesday morning. According to sources, he took the green channel showing that he had nothing to declare. However, on checking his luggage the officials found an empty box of an expensive watch. Asked about it, he said he was just carrying the box. On a closer examination of the luggage the officials allegedly found a watch hidden at the bottom of a bag. The watch was worth about Rs.14 lakh. The officials also came across some other articles in the luggage. Subsequently Mr. Arya was booked for duty evasion amounting to about Rs.7 lakh. He was produced in a court that remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. He was then lodged in Tihar Jail No.4, sources said.
