JAIPUR: The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Hemaram Choudhary, collapsed in the House while speaking on the reservation Bill -- the Rajasthan Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Special Backward Classes and Economically Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments and Posts in Service Under the State) Bill, 2008 -- on Wednesday. Mr. Choudhary was the first speaker during the debate on the Bill. Since Mr. Choudhary is in the habit of breaking down -- in his maiden address as Leader of the Opposition last year he broke into tears -- the ruling party members and his colleagues from the Congress were anxious when he volunteered to initiate the debate on the Bill -- which the Congress has already made it known it would not oppose. Everybody was not very kind to the senior leader as he grappled with the situation and many of the ruling BJP members were seen suppressing their laughter at Mr. Choudhary’s discomfiture. Mr. Choudhary seemingly got nervous as Speaker Sumitra Singh asked him to speed up his delivery considering the number of speakers listed. He sat down twice in between as the Speaker asked him whether he was supporting the Bill or not. His party colleague C.P. Joshi came to the rescue asking the Speaker to adjourn the House to provide medical attention. After the medical team posted in the Assembly building examined him, Mr. Choudhary was referred to Sawai Man Singh Hospital where his condition was said to be stable.
