PGI Chandigarh convocation tomorrow

CHANDIGARH: The Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) will hold its annual convocation this Friday. Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the convocation address while Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss will preside, a spokesman said here on Wednesday.

At this year’s convocation, 287 students would be awarded degrees. These include, among others, Ph.D. in various specialities; D.M. in the medical super-specialities of Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology and Neonatology; M.D. in the medical specialities of Anaesthesia, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Medicine, Microbiology, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Psychiatry, Pharmacology, Radio-diagnosis, Radio-therapy and Transfusion Medicine; M.Ch. in the surgical super-specialities of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology; M.S. in the surgical specialities of Orthopaedic and Ophthalmology; Masters in Hospital Administration.

Five students will be honoured with medals. The Major-General Amir Chand Gold Medal will be awarded to Dr. S. Ventakaseshan in the category of MD/MS/DM/M.Ch. and to Dr. Tranum Kaur in the category of Ph.D. The V.K. Saini Gold Medal will be awarded to Dr. Kavitha Kothur. R. Nath Gold Medal in the field of bio-medical sciences will be awarded to Dr. Rohit Sharma.

The Aikat Memorial Gold Medal will be awarded to Ms. Zeenia.
