dated July 17, 1958: Food processing

The Union Minister for Industry, Mr. Manubhai Shah, told the newly set up Development Council for Food Processing Industries in New Delhi on July 15 that the output of fruit and vegetable preservation industries would have to be doubled during the Second Plan period. The industries should solve the problem of surplus fruit and vegetable production. The production in 1957 was about 29,000 tons valued at over three crores of rupees. This showed that commendable progress had been made by the industries.
