Disturbing

It is deeply disturbing to come across reports of demands by sundry political parties in exchange for support to the UPA government’s trust vote in Parliament next week. Worse is the supposed involvement of the ‘big brothers’ and the meeting between Mukesh Ambani and the Prime Minister.

Let not political parties create a situation in which people lose faith in their leaders. In a democracy, the people are the ultimate judges. The ruling combine should be ready to face the electorate as the crutches on which it wants to lean come with a heavy price tag.

Rettavayal S. Krishnaswamy,

Chennai

SP leader Amar Singh seems to be using his newfound friendship with the Congress to derive the maximum benefit for his party and friends. What is the need for the Prime Minister to interfere in the dispute between Mukesh and Anil Ambani?

As for the Left parties, they should not give too much importance to the meeting between Mr. Ambani and Dr. Singh. In these days of liberalisation and free enterprise, one cannot help giving prominence to multi-nationals and industrial leaders.

Karavadi Raghava Rao,

Vijayawada

I fail to understand on what grounds the Left parties have concluded that the PMO has become the conciliation office for warring corporates. Mr. Ambani is a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, which makes his meeting with Dr. Singh quite legitimate.

Mukesh Choudhary,

New Delhi

I feel there is nothing wrong if corporate leaders seek the advice of the Prime Minister who is also an eminent economist. The meeting between Dr. Singh and Mr. Ambani should not be seen as the PMO’s involvement in corporate warfare.

Ajay G. Pise,

Manipal
