Letters to the Editor
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee is facing a dilemma — whether to resign or not in the context of the CPI(M)’s withdrawal of support to the UPA government. It will be inappropriate if he resigns as Speaker when a confidence motion is set to be moved in the Lok Sabha. He commands the confidence of the entire House. It would be in the fitness of things for him to preside over it at such a crucial time. Aloysius Joseph Lenthaparambil, Kochi Mr. Chatterjee’s decision not to quit at this critical juncture and remain above party affiliations deserves to be lauded. By taking a principled stand, he has upheld the dignity of the Speaker’s office. Y.S. Kadakshamani, Madurai
