KOCHI: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India will open a chapter in New York soon. This was disclosed by Agarwal Uttam Prakash, vice-president, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, at a press conference here on Wednesday. He said the Indian Chartered Accountants’ course was becoming popular abroad. As part of the continuing drive to use most modern tools of information technology for the members and students, the ICAI would launch an online learning portal. With a strength of about 1.5 lakh members, the ICAI was the second largest accounting body in the world. About 10,000 CAs pass out every year. The pass percentage was about 25 last year. Chartered accountants, as the traditional business assurance provider, were increasingly relied upon to provide Business Assurance Services in IT areas such as Information Systems Audit, Information System Development and Business Process Re-engineering. Chartered accountants needed to be more vigilant and watchful while performing their duties as society’s expectations were growing, he said.
