Committee to work towards setting right the confusion Officials told to release salaries of teachers Bangalore: After a marathon meeting with Minister for Higher Education Arvind Limbavali, the Bangalore University Economics Teachers’ Association (BUETA) has decided to resume evaluation duty, after consultation with all members, on Friday. Association president M. Siddananda told The Hindu that the Minister heard the grievances of the economics teachers and found some rationale in their arguments. “He has assured us justice. However, he urged us to resume evaluation in the interest of the students,” he said. The Minister said that he would form a high-level impartial committee by inviting specialists from various faculties. The committee would work towards setting right the confusion, given the inter-disciplinary nature of the courses. The committee report would later be ratified by the Inter-University Board. “We were convinced. We will now meet with our members on Thursday and resume evaluation in the presence of the Minister and Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath on Friday,” he added. Present at the three-hour meeting with the Minister were Principal Secretary of Education Department, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Registrar Sanjay Vir Singh, Registrar (Evaluation) L. Radhakrishna, teachers of the commerce and economics faculties, members of Bangalore University College Teachers’ Association and Karnataka Government College Teachers’ Association. Meanwhile, the Minister has directed the officials of the department to release salaries of teachers of colleges who had received ‘C’ grade from the National Accreditation and Assessment Council. BUCTA has welcomed the move as it would help teachers who had not received pay for more than nine months.
