Book on livelihood programme released

CHENNAI: Two books on livelihood programmes and a solid waste management programme implemented in the 19 tsunami-affected town panchayats in the State were released by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Wednesday.
An official release said that under the tsunami rehabilitation programme, Rs. 76.98 crore was allocated to the affected town panchayats. The Asian Development Bank had contributed Rs. 60.84 crore and the World Bank Rs. 16.14 crore.
To highlight the progress of rehabilitation, photographs were included in the books. The publications would be useful to officials, beneficiaries and trainers.
In order to protect the environment in the tsunami-affected areas, a solid waste management programme is being implemented in these town panchayats. Awareness programmes on solid waste management were conducted and vehicles provided.
The publications were distributed to the presidents of the Killai, Portonovo, Marakkanam, Kottakkuppam, Mahabhalipuram and Sholinganallur town panchayats.
