Splendid show by Lakshman Kishore

VISAKHAPATNAM: Left-arm spinner Y. Lakshman Kishore turned out a splendid performance as he picked up his second five-wicket haul of the match and helped Visakhapatnam beat Srikakulam by 10 wickets in the round-robin match and retain the Raghava Rao trophy in the ACA North Zone seniors’ inter-district tournament here on Wednesday.

This was Lakshman Kishore’s third five-wicket haul of the tournament. Earlier, S. Kranthi Kumar scored a century in Visakhapatnam’s first innings total of 235 for seven declared.

East Godavari’s A.S.K. Varma, who scored his second century of the tournament in the first innings on Tuesday, picked up five wickets in the second innings to help his team beat Vizianagaram by an innings and 155 runs.

Former Andhra captain K. Chandrasekhara Rao gave away the trophy to Visakhapatnam team.

Athletic meet

Vijayawada will host the AP junior athletic meet for boys and girls in u-14, 16, 18 and 20 segments from July 27 to 29 at IGMC Stadium.

The State contingent for the South Zone meet to be held at Tamil Nadu will be selected on the concluding day.

Hussain hits century

A century by Sk. Hussain (163) helped West Godavari post a commanding 285 for seven declared in 90 overs against Prakasam in the two-day ACA Central Zone u-22 inter-district championship for Md. Nazibullah Khan Trophy at Guntur on Wednesday.

The scores:

West Godavari 285 for seven decl. in 90 overs (Sk. Hussain 163) vs Prakasam 44 for one in 13 overs.

South restricts North

South Zone restricted North Zone to 208 in 83.2 overs in the ACA u-19 inter-zonal tournament for P. Narasimha Rao Trophy at IGMC Stadium here on Wednesday.

At draw of stumps, South Zone was 33 for one in nine overs.

The scores:

North Zone 208 in 83.2 overs (Ch. Praneeth Kumar 59, M. Ajay Kumar 42, S.M. Khan four for 36, G.B.P. Bhargav three for 71, Ahmed Basha three for 34) vs South Zone 33 for one in nine overs.

Matches drawn

Both Kadapa-Anantapur and Nellore-Kurnool ACA South Zone u-22 inter-district matches ended in a draw at Anantapur on Wednesday.

Kadapa pocketed three points while Anantapur garnered one. Both Nellore and Kurnool shared a point each as the tie was washed out.

The scores:

Kadapa 392 and 146 in 32.4 overs (Gowtham Reddy 76, Vinil Kumar three for 36) drew with Anantapur 154 in 39.5 overs (Imtiyaz 52, Preetham Reddy four for 52, Gowtham Reddy three for 16, Jagadish three for 36).
