Jail for taking bribe

PUDUKOTTAI: Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pudukottai, Rajasekaran, on Wednesday, sentenced a former project officer attached to the District Industries Centre to undergo four years’ imprisonment for having accepted bribe for sanctioning assistance to an applicant.
According to the prosecution, the applicant, Govindaraj, a resident of Pitchaithanpatti near here, had, in 2002, sought a bank loan for a self-employment programme.
Then a project officer, Balasubramanian demanded a bribe of Rs.2,000 for processing and recommending the application to the bank.
The applicant informed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials who caught the officer red-handed while accepting the bribe. A case was registered.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, who found Balasubramanian guilty, imprisonment.
