PATHANAMTHITTA: The hartal sponsored by the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kottangal grama panchayat on Wednesday, protesting against the alleged abduction of two grama panchayat members belonging to Kerala Congress(Joseph) on Tuesday, was peaceful. In a statement , DCC vice-president K. Jayavarma alleged that the two KC(J) members, Jobichan Thomas and Jossy Elanjippuram, who is also the panchayat vice-president, were abducted by a group of CPI(M) workers on Tuesday, protesting against their shifting of loyalty to the UDF camp. He alleged that the two abducted members were even ‘returned’ to the local police station by the culprits themselves later on Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, the LDF panchayat committee denied the UDF allegations. – Staff Reporter
