KASARAGOD: The police arrested key members of an inter-State gang of vehicle thieves from Olayam near Kumbla in the district on Thursday. They had allegedly stolen 13 vehicles in Kasargod in the last three months. They were also involved in temple theft cases in the district. The arrested are T.H. Riyaz, 32, a native of Periyattadukkam, Mukkom, Sheriff, a native of Anangoor, Kabir, 19, of Kappivalappil and Haaris, 32, who hails from Badiadkka here. The thieves were attempting to steal a car parked in front of a house at Olayam on Thursday morning when they were arrested. The arrest followed a tip-off received by the police from a vehicle thief who was arrested in another case. Though the gang members tried to escape, the policemen managed to arrest them after a chase with the help of local people. The police team was led by Circle Inspector T.P. Ranjith and included Sub Inspector Siby Thomas and Assistant Sub Inspector K.K. Raghavan. The police said the arrested used to sell the stolen vehicles in Bangalore.
