PATHANAMTHITTA: The Pathanamthitta District Panchayat will implement development projects estimated at Rs.10,25,63,000 this financial year, according to panchayat president A. Santhakumari. Inaugurating the development seminar at the panchayat conference hall here on Thursday, Ms. Santhakumari said a Rs.5,12,94,000 would be utilised for implementing projects in the productive, service and tertiary sectors. She said development projects worth Rs.4,76,82,000 would be implemented for welfare of Scheduled Castes and Rs.36,87,000, for Scheduled Tribes during 2008-’09. A total of Rs.1,69,87,000 would be spent on development of hospitals and schools in the panchayat. She said mechanisation would be initiated in the farming sector. Seventeen new anganwady buildings would be constructed in the district in a year. Ms. Santhakumari said a new ward for women and children would be constructed at the District Hospital at Kozhencherry at an estimated cost of Rs.2 crore. Health Minister P.K.Sreemathy would lay the foundation stone for the new hospital building on the District Hospital premises on July 26, she added.
