It will open two micro-finance based branches in the State soon The bank plans to introduce mobile bank-cum-ATM in Orissa by next September BHUBANESWAR: Emphasising on its financial inclusion programme in Orissa, the HDFC Bank has proposed to come up with two branches that would prioritise financing self-help groups (SHG) in the State. The two micro-finance dedicated branches would be opened at Berhampur and Jeypore in the current fiscal. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, K. Manohara Raj, who is heading bank’s micro finance programme, said, “The bank has four micro-finance dedicated branches in Tamil Nadu. We are on the verge of opening eight more branches in the country of which four would be in Tamil Nadu and two each in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.” The branches would help the bank reach out to the poorer section of society and the places in Orissa had been chosen keeping in mind of their proximity to interior pockets, Mr. Raj said. Moreover, the bank would take advantage of the technology to give people untouched by banking services access to financial transaction.“We are planning to introduce mobile bank-cum-ATM in Orissa by next September. Bank’s first mobile banking unit will start rolling in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu by second week of August,” he said. Financial servicesThe Senior Vice-President of the bank said besides withdrawing money from the mobile bank, people could avail financial services such as credit, savings, insurance and remittances at their doorstep. Elaborating on the micro finance programme in Orissa, Mr. Raj said all the SHG had been provided with zero balance no frill savings accounts.
