BHUBANESWAR: A day before the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) authorities are scheduled to begin the process of counselling, the Orissa Private Engineering Colleges Association (OPECA) demanded that Government should set aside the Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act. Instead, the counselling for admission into engineering colleges could be undertaken in consonance with the admission guidelines laid down by State Government in March last year, the OPECA Secretary Binod Das said in a Statement here. Private engineering colleges had already spelt out their reservation on certain sections of the Act and moved court last year. “The Government then allowed us to follow the guidelines last year,” Mr. Das said. He said the situation is same this year too. “Case is still pending in SC. So our association fails to understand that if same situation is prevailing in the present academic year like last year then why the Government is reluctant to follow the guidelines,” the OPECA Secretary said. The Act has given power to JEE to undertake counselling again in the event seats can not be filled up by AIEEE students.
