Special Correspondent
‘Shankar was the first to think about the development of the industry’
Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has expressed grief over the death of veteran Kannada actor and producer M. P. Shankar.
In a message here, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the Kannada film industry had lost a fine artiste and producer who dared to experiment.
Actor-producer and president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce Jaimala in her condolence message said that with the death of Shankar, Kannada cinema has lot a venerable producer and a fine artiste.
But for his bold and experimental outlook, Kannada cinema would not have earned the honour of producing many wildlife-based films such as Kaadina Manushya and Gandhada Gudi.
Distributor V.H. Suresh said that Shankar was the first person in the Kannada cinema to think about the development of the industry infrastructure such as shooting units.
His Bharani outdoor units had not only generated employment but also inspired many to follow suit.
