The Chief Minister, who tabled the State Budget for 2008-09, said the proposed cluster based industrial zones would be established in different parts of the State. A steel zone would be established for Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Baglakot, Haveri and Gadag districts while a cement zone would come up for Gulbarga, Bagalkot, Chitradurga, Belgaum and other districts.

A food zone would be established in Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Shimoga, Bagalkot, Bijapur and Davangere districts.

An IT-BT zone would cover Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum, Shimoga and Gulbarga districts, while the automobile zone would comprise Ramanagara, Shimoga and Hubli-Dharwad districts.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “The industrial development denotes the growth of economy. Industries do not only accelerate growth-rate, but also generate large-scale employment.”

The Chief Minister said that “Suvarna Karnataka development corridor programme” would be implemented in the State for industrial development.

A sum of Rs. 10 crore would be allocated for preparing the project plans for four corridors.
