Global Investors’ Meet to be held in January 2009 Food processing park to come up at Shimoga BANGALORE: To generate more employment opportunities for the youth, the State Government has proposed to develop six special industrial zones in different sectors on public-private partnership in the State. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said the Government would hold a Global Investors’ Meet in January 2009 to attract large-scale capital investment in all sectors of the economy. The Chief Minister, who tabled the State Budget for 2008-09, said the proposed cluster based industrial zones would be established in different parts of the State. A steel zone would be established for Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Baglakot, Haveri and Gadag districts while a cement zone would come up for Gulbarga, Bagalkot, Chitradurga, Belgaum and other districts. A food zone would be established in Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Shimoga, Bagalkot, Bijapur and Davangere districts. An IT-BT zone would cover Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum, Shimoga and Gulbarga districts, while the automobile zone would comprise Ramanagara, Shimoga and Hubli-Dharwad districts. He said a garment zone would be established in Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Kolar, Mandya, Belgaum, Bidar, Dharwad and other districts. A sum of Rs. 500 crore would be earmarked for Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in 2008-09 for the purpose, he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “The industrial development denotes the growth of economy. Industries do not only accelerate growth-rate, but also generate large-scale employment.” The Chief Minister said that “Suvarna Karnataka development corridor programme” would be implemented in the State for industrial development. A sum of Rs. 10 crore would be allocated for preparing the project plans for four corridors. The budget proposes to earmark Rs. 2 crore to establish a food processing park at Shimoga. Similar parks would be established at Malur, Bagalkot, Hiriyur and Jewargi.
