Allocation for housing up by Rs. 94 crore
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: The State Budget has projected housing schemes in three different account heads, with the total allocation increasing from Rs. 727 crore in 2007-08 to Rs. 821 crore in 2008-09. The increase, however, is not phenomenal when the present inflation rate of around 12 per cent is taken into account.
The highlight under the housing projects is the increase in allocation per house for the Ashraya scheme from the present Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 per house. To establish Ashraya colonies in villages, 5 to 10 acres of land will be purchased for developing house sites in each case.
As far as urban housing goes, Bangaloreans get 60,000 residential sites in the Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda housing layout at a total cost of Rs. 2,610 crore, through the BDA.
