Steps on to kick-start Sandhya Suraksha

Bangalore: The Excise and IT-BT Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu on Wednesday said that measures would be initiated to identify poor, old-aged persons eligible for benefits under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme, girls from below poverty line families under Bhagyalakshmi scheme and provide drinking water to the residents in the newly included areas of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Mr. Naidu, also in-charge Minister of 14 Assembly constituencies in Bangalore North, said that he had asked the officials in BBMP, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and the Urban Development Department to provide facilities under various schemes to the people in the city, at the earliest.
Speaking to presspersons, the Minister said all the 56,000 persons eligible under the Sandhya Suraksha scheme should be given pension, and deposits in respect of all the girls born to BPL families under the Bhagyalakshmi scheme, should be made.
Drinking water
Mr. Naidu said that the areas of the seven city municipal councils and one town municipal council and some villages that were brought under the BBMP should be provided with drinking water by laying pipe lines in 90 days.
Nursing kits
The Minister also asked the officials to make arrangements to supply post-natal kits for poor nursing mothers and their children in the government maternity hospitals under the Madilu scheme. He also ordered the task force, constituted to rejuvenate tanks, to evict encroachers of tank beds.
