BANGALORE: Even as the auction of Government lands in and around Bangalore has come under severe criticism, a separate corporation has been proposed to sell or lease Government lands in and around Bangalore, through which the State Government intends to raise Rs. 3,000 crore in 2008-2009. The State Budget that was placed before the Assembly on Thursday has sought seeks to establish a Karnataka Public Lands Corporation for selling or leasing valuable Government lands in and around Bangalore through competitive bidding. Hitherto, the Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner was in charge of auction of Government land recovered from encroachments, and the land auction had come under criticism. The proposed corporation assumes importance in the light of the A.T. Ramaswamy Committee identifying the encroachment of Government land in Bangalore. The committee has identified over 30,000 acres of land, and the value of the recovered land is estimated to be over Rs. 60,000 crore, at a minimum estimated price of Rs. 500 per square foot. ResurveyThe Government plans to take up resurvey of lands based on GIS in the State, and the resurvey would be undertaken in Belgaum and Ramanagara districts on a pilot basis. Sources said that though the old method of ‘Chain and Cross Staff’ would not be given up, the re-survey would have new technology that would help digitising information on land. “GIS based re-survey would help internet based transactions and would be convenient to the public,” sources said. A committee will also be set up to survey and access effective use of wakf and muzrai properties. Other announcements include setting up of new taluks based on the recommendations of the taluk re-organisation committee, and the demand for converting Lambani tandas into revenue villages would be met. Tatkal Phodi schemeIn a measure that is expected to benefit farmers, the Government has announced Tatkal Phodi scheme where the survey work would be taken up soon after the phodi applications are received from farmers, and the phodi certificate would be issued within a month. Phodi is a survey taken up to establish ownership of land after measurement
