Farmers told to forward offers


Financial support for re-plantation of cardamom

Spices Board to provide aid for irrigation facilities


KOCHI: STCL, formerly Spices Trading Corporation Limited, will procure vanilla beans directly from farmers/growers’ associations involved in vanilla curing.

The specification is: good quality (‘A’ grade 15 cm or more long, supple with typical flavour, uniform dark chocolate brown colour and without any stalks, moisture content around 30 per cent and vanillin content not less than two per cent). Procurement will be done by STCL, said a press release from the Spices Board here.

Those interested in supplying vanilla beans may forward their offer on or before August 11 indicating clearly name and address of the grower/association, telephone numbers, quantity available, quality of the beans, expected price etc., to STCL Ltd., 43/1548, Lakshmi Kunjh, Kochi-12, Kerala. Email: stclchn@vsnl.net The press release also said that the Spices Board was providing financial support for re-plantation of cardamom in the three cardamom growing States of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The re-plantation support will be extended in two annual instalments.

Cardamom growers owning up to four hectares in Kerala and Tamil Nadu will qualify for a financial package of Rs.17,780 as first instalment and Rs.17,036 as second instalment. Farmers owning above four hectares but up to eight hectares will get Rs.13,470 as first instalment and Rs.12,950 as second instalment. In Karnataka, cardamom growers owning up to four hectares will get Rs.14,950 as first instalment and Rs.11,969 as second instalment.

Farmers owning above four hectares but up to eight hectares will get Rs.9,066 as second instalment. For the rejuvenation of cardamom plantations, the Board will disburse Rs.13,300 a hectare as a single instalment to cardamom growers owning up to four hectares in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Board is also providing financial aid for setting up irrigation facilities, soil conservation and for cardamom curing besides technical advice to cardamom growers.
