Jithesh is KFA’s player of the year

KOCHI: Defender C.K. Jithesh of Ernakulam District and the Malabar United Club has been adjudged Kerala’s footballer of the year in the men’s section for the 2007-2008 season.

Malappuram’s K.V. Shameel and K. Harsheed won the honour in the under-21 and under-16 boys’ sections respectively while Wynad’s P.N. Shameer (under-19) and Ernakulam’s Akhil K. Joseph (under-13) won the title in the other age groups.

Thiruvananthapuram’s T. Geetha bagged the award in the women’s section while Pathanamthitta’s E. Savithri (under-19), Thiruvananthapuram’s Preetha Jerald (under-17) and P.R. Aswathy (under-13) were chosen in the other age groups by the Kerala Football Association.

The KFA will present the awards during its annual general body meeting in Kochi on August 31.

Sruthi in last four

S. Sruthi, Aiswarya Narayanan and J. Malavika moved into the semifinals in the girls under-13 section in the Thiruvananthapuram district badminton championship held at the Sri Moolam Club, Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

In the boys’ under-10 section, Shyam Prasad, A.R. Adarsh and Sankar Pradesh made it into the semifinals.

Titanium, KSEB post easy wins

Travancore Titanium and KSEB recorded easy wins in the Thiruvananthapuram district super division football league at the Chadrasekharan Nair Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

Titanium crushed Coastal Club 4-0 to open its campaign in style.

Renjith struck a brace (5th and 70th) while Shahjahan (55th) and Anish (58th) scored the other goals for the winner.

KSEB blanked St. George FC 3-0. Ramesh (2nd and 73rd) and Noushad (37th) scored for the electricity men.

Ernakulam District badminton

The Ernakulam District badminton championships begin at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium, Kadavanthra, on Friday morning.

State champion K.A.Anish in the men’s section and the promising Daya Elsa Jacob in girls will be some of the players in action in the two-day event.

The Ernakulam teams for the various State meets will be picked from these championships.
