Water supply restored

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Thursday sprang a pleasant surprise on its consumers. Instead of four days to complete shifting of main water lines on the BMIC link road, it has completed the task in just a day.

The result: water supply in areas which endured a shutdown will be resumed much earlier than expected. In fact, the board plans to restore supply in some areas from Friday itself.

“More than 75 per cent of the affected areas will get water from Saturday and normalcy will be restored by Sunday,” BWSSB officials said. The board earlier announced that water supply to many areas in the city would be affected from July 16 to 19 because the Cauvery water pipeline had to be shifted at Channasandra between Uttarahalli and Kengeri on the NICE Road and a new line laid.

The shifting of the pipeline had been necessitated by the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Road alignment at Channasandra. Regular water supply would be restored by July 20, a release from the board said.

Officials said that work was taken up in a big way and was completed on day one. “As we had switched off the motor at the main pumping station on July 16, the level of water in all reservoirs fell. Although the motor has been switched on at 11 a.m. on Thursday, it will take 15 hours for these reservoirs to fill up to the normal level. That is why, regular supply will be restored only by Saturday,” a top official said.
