SHIMOGA: D.R. Renuke, Judge of the Third Fast Track Court here, on Thursday awarded death sentence to all the three convicts in a murder case.

Madhurnath, Rafiq and Jayanna of Anandpuram in Sagar taluk have also been sentenced to undergo imprisonment for seven years for kidnapping the deceased, and for five years for having destroyed evidence in the case. They have also been asked to pay fine of Rs. 35,000 each.

Plan

Madhurnath had hatched a plan to kill his friend Madhusudan who was looking after his uncles’ ginger business.

Madhusudan was waiting at the bus stand in Sagar town on August 8, 2005, to go to Anandapuram to hand over some cash he had collected from the parties concerned to his uncle.

Madhurnath offered Madhusudan, who was waiting at the bus stand, a lift up to Anandapuram, in his van.

He was joined by Rafiq and Jayanna on the way. They strangled Madhusudan band abandoned his body in a nearby forest area.

Complaint

Srinath and Kiran who had paid the money to Madhusudan lodged a complaint with the police. The next day, the accused went to the spot where they had abandoned the body.

They severed Madhusudan’s head and threw it in the Nandihole stream, and the mutilated body in a teak plantation.

A few days before the murder, Madhurnath had told one of his friends that he had plans to kidnap Madhusudan. The police, who grew suspicious about one of Madhunath’s friend, interrogated him.

Following his revelation, the three were arrested.
