Chain snatched from child

KOCHI: The Panangad police on Thursday arrested a person on charge of snatching a one sovereign gold chain of a two-year-old child from Madavana near here. Police said, Navas, 36, a resident of Mattancherry, tried to get away with the chain but was chased down by local residents and police personnel. On being caught, he denied having stolen the chain. Suspicious over his behaviour, the police subjected him to an X-ray test and found that he had swallowed the chain. Now the police have the onerous task of retrieving the chain from his stomach, which they plan to do on Friday. After this, the accused will be produced before the court, police said. — Staff Reporter
