Policing has assumed new dimensions, says Commissioner

CHENNAI. Policing has assumed new dimensions with the advent of information technology and increased awareness among the people, Commissioner of Police R. Sekar said here on Thursday.

Inaugurating the academic exchange programme between the Department of Criminology, University of Madras, and the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences, Illinois State University Normal, USA, here on Thursday, he said police had to perform by keeping in mind the expectations of the people.

With human rights activists and the media closely watching, the police had to ensure that there was no compromise on professionalism. “We are even taking action on complaints received by e-mail”, he added. Head of the Department of Criminology R. Thilagaraj spoke.
