Woman kills 3 children, attempts suicide

Staff Reporter

BAPATLA: A woman threw her three children into the Tungabhadra irrigation drain in Karlapalem mandal and attempted suicide by jumping into it on Thursday evening.

While the three children drowned, the woman identified as Koteswaramma was rescued by the locals. They admitted her in a hospital at Bapatla. The police said that Koteswaramma attempted suicide after she was reportedly chided by her husband for taking the children to the hospital without his knowledge. DSP Vijay Singh said the woman had regained her consciousness and they were trying to ascertain the causes that spurred her to take the extreme step.

Self-immolation

In a similar incident at Pedacheruvu near Narsaraopet, a woman immolated herself along with her daughter in their house on Thursday evening.

Police said that Marri Ramyasri took her one-year-old daughter Sahitya inside the house, locked the door and resorted to the extreme act. Even as her mother-in-law Rajyalakshmi and neighbours tried to break the door, the two were charred to death.
