Scholarships for minority students

TIRUCHI: The district administration has invited applications from eligible minority students for availing post-matric scholarship provided through the Tamil Nadu Minorities Economic Development Corporation.
Students of standard XI to post-graduate/research programmes are eligible. In Tamil Nadu, 6,711 minority students would be given the scholarships. Those who have got the scholarships during 2007-08, can apply for renewal.
Students with 50 per cent aggregate marks in the previous qualifying examination can apply.
The annual income of the parents/guardian should be less than Rs.2 lakh.
Students are eligible to get Rs.3,000 to Rs.10,000 a year towards admission/education fee, depending on their standard or course.
They would also be eligible to get maintenance assistance as stipulated under the programme, sponsored by the Union government, Collector T.Soundiah said in a press release.
Candidates should submit the filled-in applications along with the relevant certificates to their respective educational institutions.
The last date for submission of applications by new applicants is August 8 and for renewals it is August 31.
