BANGALORE: Say goodbye to those bothersome visits or enquiries with the local police station to know the status of verification of your passport application. Just visit the newly launched police website, www.ksp.gov.in, and type your passport application number to know the status.

The status check of police verification is one of the special features on the newly launched website of the Karnataka State Police. “It will show the actual status of the application. If there is no progress, people can meet the authorities concerned and get the matter expedited,” says Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Sri Kumar, the brain behind the new website. The website provides information about the applications pending in various police stations across the city. “We are working towards providing information of applications filed from different parts of the State. We are also trying to sort out some glitches and get the exact number of applications sent by Passport Office to the police stations,” he adds.

Mr. Kumar says the idea behind opening the new website is the part of the efforts to make the police system more transparent and responsive. “Unlike many Government websites which are often outdated and offer little help to visitors, the new website will be current. Every 15 days, a new feature will be added to give a new dimension to the website,” he says. Among the features to be introduced will be online registration of complaints. There will be methods of verification to prevent mischievous complaints. The website will give regular updates on issues such as modernisation of the police force, important police-related events and announcements.

The new website has been given a different look and feel, unlike the old website ( www.karnatakastatepolice.org). The first message that greets every visitor of the new website is: “Be a model citizen! Now pass information, help police department and get rewarded,” which prompts people to share information about crime.

The new website has retained some of the features such as information about missing persons, wanted persons, recovered vehicles, information to foreigners and police manual.

It also provides news such as orders to transfer 41 police officers and the related movement orders.

Mr. Kumar has asked people to give useful suggestions on content, technical and other features which would contribute towards its growth and utility.
