Temporary emergency response centre coming

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A temporary central emergency response centre is being set up in the Health Visitors Training School in the Government Kasturbai Hospital for Women at a cost of Rs. 1.85 crore.

Inspecting the work on Thursday, Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam said the Chief Minister would launch the services by the end of August. The origins of this project lie in the memorandum of understanding signed between the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project and the Emergency Management Research Institute in May this year.

As part of the first phase, the Health Systems Project handed over 198 ambulances to the institute to equip them for emergency situations. Eventually, the service will be extended to the districts, says a release. To access the facilities, a toll free number (108) has been allotted.
