Hyderabad: Lalithasri Combines has formally announced the launch of its mega musical film ‘Thyagayya’ on Guru Poornima day. The bilingual, Telugu and Tamil, film is going to be directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. Musical score is by Ilayaraja. According to producer R. V. Ramana Murthy, though this was not the first film on the 18th century composer Thyagaraja, the new film is closest to the life and times of the great musician. In-depth research into minute details of Thyagaraja’s life, the presence of the music trinity -- Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Syama Sastri and Thyagaraja -- in Thanjavur, their mutual exchange of notes have all led to conceptualising ‘Thyagayya’. The lyrics, mostly Thyagaraja kritis, will retain their stringent classical framework under Ilayaraja’s sensitive direction. Script writer K. Bharavi is penning the dialogues and ace lensman Ashok Kumar is behind the camera. “Technically, we have a team of stalwarts who, I am confident, will deliver the goods. The film is a Rs. 5 crore plus project funded by NRIs and other institutions. Shooting will commence in September along with recording. The cast is entirely non-filmy, as we wanted a fresh approach. But we can ensure our movie-goers that ‘Thyagayya’ is going to win their accolades,” said Ramana Murthy. In all probability, the film is proposed to be released on Thyagaraja aradhana Day on January 6 next year.
