Kozhikode: The State secretariat of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to launch a State-wide protest against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s decision to go ahead with the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, despite protests from various quarters, said PDP chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany here on Friday. Talking to news persons after the party secretariat meeting here Mr. Maudany said that the PDP would organise protest programmes including a house-to-house campaign, distributing pamphlets and educating people of the implications of the deal in all the constituencies of the State from July 23 to August 3. The party will hold protest rallies in all the district headquarters on July 22 besides conducting a major public meeting in Kozhikode on August 15. On textbookAbout the controversy over the Class VII social science textbook, Mr. Maudany reiterated the party stand that the school curriculum should not include religious or anti-religious studies. But, he said that there was no need to withdraw the textbook in full. Removal of controversial portions would suffice, he added. ‘Justice Day’Mr. Maudany also said that the PDP would observe August 1, on which falls the first anniversary of Mr. Maudany’s release from jail, as ‘Justice Day.’
