Kozhikode: The city committee of All India Lawyers Union has criticised the Revenue Department for not demolishing an encroachment on a land belonging to the Judicial Department. In spite of requests from the district court, the Revenue Department has not evicted the encroacher, the union alleged. On a writ filed by the alleged encroacher in the High Court, the court ordered in February this year that the Tahsildar, Kozhikode, decide on the matter after giving the petitioner two weeks to file objections. “But the Tahsildar has not done so. As a result the encroacher still enjoys the property,” K.N. Jayakumar, secretary, city committee of All Kerala Lawyers Union alleged on Friday. He found it shocking that even the letters sent by the District Judge requesting speedy action had not evoked any response. He also warned that if action was not taken within one week, ‘there would be legal battles.’
