Project-affected stage protest against declaring them ineligible VIZIANAGARAM: Families affected by Thotapalli and Peddagedda irrigation projects on Friday staged protest demonstrations at the Collector’s office saying that some of them who returned after deserting their homes temporarily for some time in search of livelihood were denied relief and rehabilitation package. Moreover, to their dismay, they were declared ineligible for the package. M. Krishna Murty, CPI (M) district secretary, who led the protesters, said that a few families from Gunanapuram, Markondaputti, Bitrapadu, Nimmalapadu, Sunki, Duggi and other villages under Thotapalli project left homes in search of work. “Though they have their homes, ration cards and voter identity cards, they were denied compensation reportedly due to politics.” Mr. Krishna Murty said as per the norms, R&R package must be given to those who crossed 18 years of age, widows and widowers but this was not followed. He demanded an inquiry into irregularities at the base level and compensation to all families displaced by the projects. He threatened to launch an agitation any time after August 5 if the demand was not accomplished by then. Project Nirvasithula Porata Committee state vice-president Bantu Dasu and farmers participated.
